How We Verify

Last updated: 13 September 2026

Le Won explains Korea’s money, policy and AI buildout for people who live, work or invest in Korea but don’t follow Korean-language news. This page explains where our numbers come from, how guides, news briefs and calculators are made, and how to report a mistake.

Where the numbers come from

Topic Source
Interest and exchange rates Bank of Korea
Income tax, year-end settlement National Tax Service
National Pension, lump-sum refunds National Pension Service
Health insurance National Health Insurance Service
Housing, jeonse, property tax Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
Wages, severance, minimum wage Ministry of Employment and Labor
Laws Korea Legislation Research Institute (English translations of Korean statutes)
Statistics Statistics Korea, KOSIS
News briefs Named outlets such as Yonhap, KBS World, The Korea Times, Kyunghyang Shinmun English, BusinessKorea and The Elec — every brief links its sources

How guides are written

  • Every rule, rate and deadline is checked against an official source, and the “as of” date sits next to it.
  • When a rule depends on your visa, residency or nationality, we say so and name the office that decides.
  • We use AI tools to gather sources and draft. Every figure is then matched against the linked source, and figures we can’t trace are removed.

How news briefs work

  • Briefs summarise reporting from named outlets and link to it. We add the background — why Korea does it this way — and what it means for readers. We don’t do original reporting.
  • If a story has no clear money or policy impact for readers, we skip it.

Calculators

  • Formulas follow Korean law and official rates. Amounts are in Korean won (₩).
  • What you type stays in your browser — nothing is stored or sent.
  • Results are estimates. Confirm final figures with your employer, bank or the relevant office.

Not financial advice

Le Won is for information only. It is not financial, tax, legal or immigration advice.

Report a mistake

If a rule has changed or a figure is wrong, tell us through the contact page of our Korean edition at moneynotekorea.com — English is fine. We fix confirmed errors and update the date at the top of the page.
